65th National Film Awards: Rahul Khanna shares an adorable childhood picture of Vinod Khanna and Akshaye after Dadasaheb Phalke Award

The 65th National Film Awards ceremony took place yesterday in New Delhi. Amidst the furore that filmmakers created on not being felicitated by President Ram Nath Kovind, there were quite a few touching and endearing moments that made all of us grab the tissues. The late Sridevi who was awarded the Best Female Actor award for her performance in MOM was solemnly remembered by her husband Boney Kapoor and daughters Jahnvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor. Legendary actor Vinod Khanna was awarded the esteemed Dada Saheb Phalke Award at the National Film Award posthumously. His elder son Rahul Khanna shared an adorable childhood picture of his younger brother Akshaye Khanna with their father Vinod.

Dada Saheb Phalke Award is India’s highest film honour, and that prompted an emotional response from Rahul who did not attend the ceremony. The award was received by Akshaye Khanna along with his stepmother Kavita Khanna. He shared the throwback picture on his Instagram and wrote that it is “one of his favourite photos”. Akshaye who along with his stepmother received the award from President Ram Nath Kovind told PTI, “We are really proud as a family. It is a bittersweet moment for us. I wish my father was here to receive this award. I am missing him. It is an emotional day for us."

At Thursday’s ceremony, the legendary actor was paid a tribute with a montage of his most famous films was played out with several of his honourable colleagues like Amitabh Bachchan, Rishi Kapoor, Gulzar, Madhuri Dixit, Hema Malini and Prem Chopra sharing their memories of him.

Khanna died last year due to bladder cancer and was mourned by his colleagues from the film industry. His co-star from Chandni , Sridevi was also posthumously awarded for her exemplary performance in Mom. She was conferred with the Best Actor Female award.
