Sona Mohapatra reaches out to Mumbai Police over alleged threats, Javed Akhtar comes to aid

Sona Mohapatra has always been vocal about her opinions. Earlier, in an interview when Salman Khan compared himself with a raped woman when quizzed about the gruelling Sultan shoot, the Ambarsariya hitmaker didn't hold any punches. She immediately took to Twitter and addressed the hypocrisy, “Women thrashed, people run over, wild life massacred and yet #hero of the nation. ‘Unfair’. India full of such supporters."

On Monday, the singer posted a series of tweets addressing the Mumbai Police over threatening texts she has been receiving from the Mandariya Sufi Foundation. Sona who received flack for her recent music video Tori Surat for being "vulgar" and having “earthy incarnations of the feminine Divine”. The foundation has allegedly asked Sona to remove her music for all communication mediums as it might "flare communal tension".

She wrote, "Dear @MumbaiPolice I have received a threatening notice from the Madariya Sufi Foundation to remove my music video Tori Surat from all communication mediums. They claim that the video is vulgar, will flare communal tensions.I need to know whom to write in my response to at ur end"

However, despite continuous mentions apparently, the singer received no help. She shared, "The last time I shared my phone number with the @MumbaiPolice was when I was getting rape, mutilation, death & acid attack threats during the Salman controversy. I am sorry to say that no real help or remedy came my way sir, @CPMumbaiPolice . Thankful I am safe despite the same."

However, despite not much help received, lyricist and screenwriter Javed Akhtar immediately jumped in to support Sona and slammed the "mullas". He wrote, "In strongest possible words I condemn those regressive and reactionary organisations who are threatening Sona Mahapatra for making a music video of a Amir Khusrau ‘ Geet . These mullas should know that Amir Khusrau belongs to every Indian . He is not your property ."
