Gully Boy gets romantic: Like Romeo, Ranveer scaled up the balcony to his ladylove Alia

Time does fly! The last schedule of Gully Boy is currently being shot with Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh at a South Mumbai theatre. Incidentally, both the lead stars had suffered shoulder injuries recently – while Alia had suffered a nasty injury on the sets of Brahmastra in Bulgaria, Ranveer had torn his labral muscle.

Both, however, looked in good shape as they filmed a romantic scene on Monday night at the Edward theatre in South Mumbai. The theatre has been rechristened the Moonlight Hotel for the shoot, with the first floor of the dilapidated building next to the theatre doubling up as Alia’s home in the film.

The sequence being shot showed Alia in a simple white kurta with Ranveer in an ordinary green shirt. Phone held to his ear, he had to walk towards the entrance of the ‘hotel’, as he chatted excitedly with his special girl, who was just above in the balcony, leaning down to look at him. Then, in a scene straight out of the Shakespearean drama Romeo and Juliet, Jignesh (as Ranveer is called in the film) hauled himself up a bamboo scaffolding to reach his dearest Zoya (Alia’s character). Adorable!

Shooting started at 12 pm and was completed post 1 am… the best time for romance onscreen as well!

Zoya Akhtar’s film Gully Boy is being eagerly awaited as it tells a never seen before tale of love and hope in Asia’s biggest slum, Dharavi. Filming had teed off in January this year. The film is based on the lives of rappers Naezy aka Naved Shaikh and Divine aka Vivian Fernandes. The duo had achieved fame with their song compositions based on social issues. Ranveer plays a character inspired by Naved.

While shooting in Dharavi, Ranveer had experienced a flood of love from the locals. They were aware that the actor through Gully Boy was bringing to life the real stories of their street heroes Divine and Naezy. It was a very emotional moment for everyone at Dharavi and they showered love, care and affection on Ranveer.
