Gritty and Grey: We can’t wait to see Vidya channel her inner gangster

Post Tumhari Sulu, there is no dearth of wow offers coming Vidya’s way – not that there was ever a drought where this fab actress was concerned! Let’s just say that now she is the top choice for practically every filmmaker with an unusual theme and a role that demands a powerhouse performance.

Recently there was buzz that Vidya had been approached by Bareilly Ki Barfi director Ashwini Iyer Tiwari for her upcoming film that also features Bhumi Pednekar. While she is yet to give her formal confirmation on that, another juicy project has come Vidya’s way…
She has been approached to play a gangster, no less, in an as-yet-untitled project to be directed by Jyoti Kapur Das. Das, who had made waves with the award-winning short film, Chutney (2016), has crafted a tale set in the gritty realm of crime. If Vidya greenlights the film, she will play the lead character who has shades of grey.

Word has it that she will essay the role of a strong-minded woman, a virtual crime overlord. Not surprisingly, Vidya’s was the first name that sprang to mind after Jyoti finished writing the script. One of the best and most realistic actresses of the Hindi film screen, Vidya would be able to bring the necessary punch and authenticity to the role. While Vidya has apparently already heard the story narration and shown interest in coming on board, her dates are yet to be worked out. Don’t forget she also has the biopic on Indira Gandhi in her kitty. If the dates do fall in place, she will start shooting for this crime drama later this year.

Interestingly, in the course of an interview last month, Vidya had revealed that every film or role that she had done has had a personal connect. “All these women (characters) follow their heart and do exactly what they want to do and in a way they were all an extension of me,” she had said.

Now we can’t wait to see this knockout actress channel her inner gangsta!
