Oh no, Shahid-Imtiaz film shelved for now?

Shahid Kapoor and Imtiaz Ali had made magic together with the absolutely engaging Jab We Met Just. Last October, the film completed 10 years of existence and soon there was buzz that the director-actor duo would return to the screen with another rom-com. The film was supposed to go on the floors in summer this year and was to have been extensively shot in Mumbai and abroad.

It was reported that Imtiaz was hunting for the female lead of the film to be cast opposite Shahid. The film, a love story, was to tee off after Shahid completed the filming of his Shree Narayan Singh social-drama, Batti Gul Meter Chalu in Uttarakhand. He would be free to begin shooting with Imtiaz in April, and the film was to be shot through July and August.
A thrilled Imtiaz had confirmed, “The film is a human story. It’s set in one place. If I can tell you one thing, it would be that it is not a travel-oriented film, which is a good thing for me!”

Now, in a rather nasty blow, it turns out the film will not take off after all. Apparently, the project has been hit by creative differences within the team. The script is the cause of the conflict. While the slightly edgy script has been loved and approved by the leading man, the producers are hemming and hawing over it. They are not entirely convinced of it, given its experimental nature.

As a result, when Shahid and Imtiaz met recently to decide the further course of action, it was decided to place the project on the backburner for the present. Imtiaz, who is currently vacationing in the Maldives, will most likely start working on a new script once he is back. It just might be set in that emerald isle, for all we know!

However, this latest development has also compelled Shahid to relook the offers that have come his way. As he had already blocked his dates for Imtiaz’s film, the sudden window in his dates’ diary now remains to be filled. He is apparently reading other scripts as of now.

As for their now all-but-scrapped project, we do hope a producer will come along brave enough to pick it up and pour in the moolah. Something that both Imtiaz and Shahid were so keen on deserves to be out there!
