Madhuri’s first film production is a tale of freedom

She has taken her time but she’s finally got there… Meet Madhuri Dixit, the film producer!

Filming for her first film production, a slice-of-life Marathi film has begun at a chawl in Malad, Mumbai on February 24. The film has been tentatively titled 15 August. The auspicious first day of shoot saw the gorgeous actress-producer in attendance along with husband Dr. Sriram Nene. Sounding the first clap was Madhuri’s 85-year-old-mother, Snehlata Dixit.

It was a red letter day, a special moment and the cast and crew celebrated by enjoying a warm, joyful pre-Holi party on set.

Madhuri flashed her trademark 1000-watt smile as she said, “After being in front of the camera for more than thirty years, it feels like a privilege to be donning the producer’s hat for the first time. I wholeheartedly believe in our talented director, Swapnaneel Jayakar, (Tendulkar Not Out) who is now leading an equally talented cast. Mrunmayee and Rahul are both fantastic actors.”

She added that filmmaking was the ultimate team sport. “The film will make you realize that freedom is a gift only you can give yourself,” she said. As a producer, she is happy to have brought together some of the best talents from the Hindi and Marathi film industries.
The film will be shot in Mumbai at real locations in a start-to-finish schedule. It stars Ventilator actor Rahul Pethe and Natasamrat star, Mrunmayee Deshpande. It has been written by Mumbai Meri Jaan and Tendulkar Not Out writer, Yogesh Vinayak Joshi. Also on board is actor-producer, Adinath Kothare.

With this film, the gorgeous Mads ticks off another box on her must-do list. She has recently completed shooting for her first Marathi film as an actress - Bucket List. Directed by Tejas Deoskar, it brings her together with her Hum Aapke Hai Koun co-star and fellow Marathi mulgi, Renuka Shahane.

The newly baptized producer states, “While one of the things on my bucket list was to do a Marathi film, I am finally checking off being a producer. There’s a lot more we have planned and I hope to create a lot more big-screen magic.”
