John gets RAW: Can’t wait to see him in this espionage drama!

John Abraham sure knows how to pick ’em!

He has Abhishek Sharma’s Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran, based on the nuclear bomb test explosions conducted by the Indian Army at Pokhran in 1998, up for release. Next in line, the hunky actor has Milap Zaveri’s cop-murderer thriller which he has already started shooting for. And yes, he has also green-lighted his third - Robbie Grewal’s Romeo Akbar Walter (RAW), which will go on floors June 1.

Ajay Kapoor, who is co-producing this spy-thriller, confirms, “We are excited to have John on board this film with us. The process began when we were brainstorming on whom to cast for the protagonist’s part and thought that John would fit the bill perfectly. He really liked the script and gave his nod on the same day as the narration. We have revisited the script of this espionage-drama which is set in the 1970s and we can’t wait to take it on the floors.”

Buzz goes that filming will take place in a marathon 60-day schedule in Nepal, Gujarat, Srinagar and Delhi. Recces have already been conducted by the team since the last few months.

Once John completes filming for Milap’s film, he will start readings and workshops for RAW. It is learnt that he will don a never-seen-before look for the film and sport multiple avatars. National Award-winning makeup artist Vikram Gaikwad has already been brought on board to work his magic, while costumes will be handled by Amera Pulwani.

RAW had hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons last year. A formal announcement had been made regarding Sushant Singh Rajput being signed on to play the lead role. However, due to reasons that remain mysterious, the actor pulled out of the film.

Ajay prefers to maintain that it was merely date issues. “Nothing went wrong except that the dates Sushant had given us were clashing with another film so we decided to part ways amicably. Obviously one feels bad as we had finished most of the prep and were ready to roll. But everything is sorted now, Sushant is like a brother.”

With John headlining RAW, all past regrets go out of the window!
