And a message for Sridevi’s daughter who comes of age on turning 21 today

There can be no prizes for guessing what poor Janhvi Kapoor would have wished for her 21st birthday today. The elder daughter of Sridevi and Boney Kapoor just stepped out of her growing up years and into adulthood… but the one person who she would have counted upon to help her gracefully make the transition and come of age is no longer here. Bollywood lost its first female superstar and an iconic actor, but young Janhvi lost her mother and best friend. Whose loss is greater?

Sridevi’s multi-lingual films will continue to entertain fans as before, but there is a “gnawing hollowness” in Janhvi’s heart that will never be compensated. With Sridevi’s passing away on February 24, a curtain has come down on Janhvi’s life even before the curtain on her career as a debutante actress could go up later this year. This has to be one of Life’s most tragic twists.

But, Sridevi apparently left a last birthday gift for Janhvi before she passed away in Dubai of an accidental drowning. On her Instagram account, Sridevi shared a picture collage of cute and private moments Boney and she had with Janhvi during her baby years. They are as tender as they are beautiful. Sridevi had written, “Happy birthday to my angel, the most precious thing to me in the world, wish you the best birthday my baby. Love you.”

It breaks the heart to imagine what Janhvi’s reaction to this might have been. However, the world was swift to react, because the post immediately went viral on the Internet, and fans of the late actress have expressed their grief over this terrible loss in impassioned pleas to Sridevi that sadly will fall on ears unable to hear and respond to their wishes anymore.

Meanwhile, for Janhvi we have this humble suggestion: You don’t ever get over the loss of a Mom. The heartache will keep you company in all the good and best moments of your life hereafter, because you miss her sorely then, and wish she was there to share these happy and proud times with you. On Mother’s Day in May, you will want to trade all your tomorrows for a single yesterday with her. The world shares your loss; it knows nothing of your pain. But know that she is watching over you. Light a lamp before your favourite picture of her. And have a conversation with your Mother first thing in the morning and last thing at night. Let her know that you will carry her memory in your heart forever and a day. It helps, trust us.

Happy Birthday and God bless.
