Sridevi’s coming home, finally!

At 3.48 pm IST, the Dubai government’s media office tweeted: “Dubai Public Prosecution stressed that all regular procedures followed in such cases have been completed. As per the forensic report, the death of the Indian actress occurred due to accidental drowning following loss of consciousness. The case has now been closed.”

Bollywood may heave a collective sigh of relief. But for Boney Kapoor and his daughters Jhanvi and Khushi, the long haul to now begin their lives without the commanding presence of Sridevi at home is only just beginning. They have everybody’s sympathies.

What’s happening in Dubai currently is that the late actress’ mortal remains have gone from the Forensic Department’s mortuary to the embalming unit at Muhaisna where it will be prepared for the final journey home. The body will be flown to Mumbai by Anil Ambani’s Embraer-135BJ private jet and will be accompanied by Boney and Arjun Kapoor who flew to Dubai last night to be at his father’s side in this moment of crisis.

Earlier fears were that Boney would not be allowed to leave Dubai with his passport being seized by the police of the Emirate city. But now, with the case officially being closed, there appears no reason for the bereaved Bollywood producer to stay back when his late wife is being taken back home for the last rites in Mumbai.

In Mumbai, hectic preparations have begun at the Celebrations Club in Lokhandwala where Sridevi’s body is expected to lie in state for friends from Bollywood and fans from all over to pay their last respects. The Mumbai Police has already thrown a security cordon around the venue. It is expected that the body will be taken to Boney Kapoor’s Green Acres house in Lokhandwala for a short while and then be brought to the Celebrations Club. From there, it is expected to be taken to the crematorium at Pawan Hans for the last rites.
