Hrithik, Kamal, Raveena share warm and personal memories of Sridevi

Declaring that he loved and admired her so much, Hrithik reveals that his first acting shot was with Sridevi. “I was nervous to be in front of her. I remember her shaking her hands pretending to be nervous too, just because she wanted to boost my confidence,” recalls. They had to laugh together for the scene and she kept laughing until he got it right. He declares that he will miss her, “the brightest, the most magnificent star of all.”

Rajinikanth said, "She was a very close friend of mine. I am really sad at her demise. This is a big loss. She was a born actor." 'Sridevi will always remain alive in my memory. It feels awkward to speak of her in the past tense. We have lost the biggest star in our country. I still cannot believe it. It will take many years to register what has actually happened', mentioned Anupam Kher. Aamir Khan also shared a picture with his message written on it on twitter:

Raveena Tandon maintains that Sridevi was a part of her growing years, as she danced to her popular songs. She had watched Sri act in her father Ravi Tandon’s film Nazrana (1986) and then got to share the screen with her in 1994 when they starred in Laadla.

Raveena recalls the first shot being an emotional one for them because Sri had stepped into the role that was to have been originally played by Divya Bharti, who had passed away tragically. Apparently, Raveena, Divya and Shakti Kapoor had shot a scene in Aurangabad where Divya fires them and throws them out of the office. While shooting the scene, Divya kept getting stuck on a particular line of dialogue and had to give several retakes. In a strange coincidence, when they shot the same scene in the same office with Sridevi, six months later, Sri kept getting stuck on the same line! Raveena then held Sridevi’s hand as they all chanted the Gayatri mantra aloud, and broke a coconut before resuming shooting.

For Juhi Chawla, it was Sridevi who she was inspired by. Juhi remembers being very anxious when Yash Chopra signed her for Darr, wondering if she would be able to match up to her performance in Lamhe. On a more personal note, when Juhi’s daughter was born and her rashi turned out to be ‘J’, they decided to name her Jhanvi too, the other name of Ganga. “Since the only other person I knew with that name was Sriji’s daughter, I called and told her that I was giving my daughter the same name as hers.”

Kamal Haasan, who shared a long and fruitful association with the late actress, calls her “an astounding talent”. He knew her from her teens. Still a child when she came to work with him and K Balachander, his mentor, Kamal’s was the responsibility to correct her and teach her some dance moves. He witnessed her journey into becoming the magnificent actress she eventually became. “She developed her skills every day. She learnt the art. I was astounded by her progress and she worked very hard to achieve it,” he points out.

The two did 27 films together and he believes their dedication truly matched each others.
The last time he met her it was last month. Though both are not fond of showing emotion, they hugged that day and today he is very grateful for that last hug. The songs of their film Sadma now ring in his ears. “I think that’s a great lullaby for the talented, beautiful Sridevi.”
