Yesterday, Varun Dawan, producer Karan Johar and director Shashank Khaitan raised curiosity levels with an intriguing post, suggesting that they would be making an important announcement shortly. And today, they have – announcing a collaboration for a revenge drama, named Rannbhoomi.
Director Shashank has already worked with Varun on Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania and the top-grossing Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya, both produced by Dharma. Naturally, expectations will be high as the trio combine again for Rannbhoomi, which is touted to be an epic tale, with emotions and opulence, and love at its core.

Apparently, even though Shashank is busy filming Dhadak, the remake of Sairat starring Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter, he has also been keenly involved with his pet project. Being extremely fond of Varun, both as an actor and a person, he wrote the script of the new film with Varun in mind. If he was sure he wanted only Varun in this role, Varun himself was only too happy to come on board.
Varun was so impressed on hearing the script, he immediately agreed to be part of the film. It’s doubly exciting for him at this time the genre is not restricted to romance but moves into the realm of action-drama.
Varun confirms, “Shashank is not only a close friend, he’s also a filmmaker whom I have tremendous respect for. Our association has always been successful and magical, and we decided to take our alliance further and create a mammoth spectacle. Dharma is home for the both of us, and what better team than this to collaborate on a Diwali celebration? Rannbhoomi is an ambitious film with a beating heart.”

Rannbhoomi is expected to be a war film and is scheduled for a Diwali release in 2020. Karan also tweeted, “So proud to announce #RANNBHOOMI ....@ShashankKhaitan and @Varun_dvn take a giant leap in their third offering into a solid spectacle with a beating heart! DIWALI 2020 release! The lead cast will be finalized soon!!!!”
