Hated Padmaavat? Bhansali will work harder to please you!

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat is winning love galore across the globe. This historical magnum opus has registered the highest opening weekend for a Hindi film overseas (excluding China). It continues is fabulous run in the domestic market as well. According to trade reports, the Deepika-Ranveer-Shahid starrer had a great third Saturday at the box office. Estimated collections of the film have already crossed a whopping Rs.250 crore.

The film has been winning rave reviews for its filmmaker and cast as well. But not all are pleased and it’s those who are unimpressed that Bhansali apparently has his energies focused on!

The director, who turns 55 later this month, recently shared, “My work, my cinema is the only impetus. I have to wake up every morning with hope in my heart. The past year has been traumatic for me. I am yet to process all the levels of attack I went through. I only want to feel thankful that our film has been seen by the public, and liked… except by those who invariably think my cinema is about excesses. To them I can only say sorry, I will try harder next time to please you.”

Now that is a humble tone to take and it should make his critics happy, right, Swara Bhaskar?

His films might be grand cinematic celebrations, but in real life Bhansali prefers to keep everything low-key. He explains, “As a child, I never got to celebrate my birthday. My sister and I were not even allowed to attend birthday parties. Having said that, I see no reason to celebrate, birthday or no birthday. The fate of Padmaavat was never in our hands, or in the hands of those who wanted to stop it. I have just one question for those who don’t like my film, many of them without seeing it: Who decides what the audience should see and like?”
In fact, by the looks of it, Bhansali is already moving on from the triumph of Padmaavat and looking forward to his next. What a man!
