OMG, now Karni Sena to enter filmmaking!

The Karni Sena is determined to have their pound of flesh. At a news conference in Chittorgarh, the district president of the Karni Sena, Govind Singh Khangarot revealed their next ‘masterstroke’ – a film director Sanjay Leela Bhansali's mother, if you please. “Bhansali has insulted our mother Padmavati, but we will ensure that he feels proud of the movie we will make,” he said, adding, “As our country gives the right to expression to everyone, we will ensure that this right is used to its fullest.”

Pegged to be titled Leela Ki Leela, the film will be directed by Arvind Vyas and scripting is supposedly already in progress. The film would be launched in the next 15 days and it would be shot across Rajasthan. They plan to release it in a year’s time.
Naturally, this move has come as something of a surprise, given that the Karni Sena has so far vented their ire at Bhansali’s period film in less creative ways – stoning school buses, torching vehicles, vandalizing malls, issuing death threats and the like. It will be interesting to see them step into the realm of filmmaking to get even with Bhansali.

Meanwhile, they have vowed to keep up the nationwide protests against Padmaavat till the film is banned. Today, on the occasion of Republic Day, they have thoughtfully requested their workers to pause the agitation for a day. The Karni Sena has been protesting vociferously – and violently - against the Sanjay Leela Bhansali film, which they claim distorts history. The Deepika Padukone-Shahid Kapoor-Ranveer Singh-starrer released nationwide on Thursday, barring some states.

Yesterday the Haryana Police also detained BJP leader Kunwar Surajpal Singh Ammu who had announced a Rs.10 crore award to behead actress Deepika Padukone and filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali for their role in Padmaavat. Ammu had announced the bounty in November last year, in protest against the release of the film which the Rajput community claims distort history. He had also threatened to break the legs of actor Ranveer Singh, who plays the role of Delhi Sultan Alauddin Khilji in the movie.
Filmmaking will be a refreshing change, we are guessing.
