Ni hao, Aamir! The star is doing his bit for Indo-China ties

If India is looking to diffuse the tension with China over the Doklam border issue, we suggest they try roping in Aamir Khan – this dude is all for Indo-China collaboration - in the film space, for starters.

The Dangal actor-producer has been talking about how wonderful it would be if Chinese and Indian talents make a film together. Having visited China twice since 2015, Aamir believes Chinese and Indian people have many things in common when it comes to characters and social culture. Both countries enjoy a high level of civilization with a diversity of cultures and a long history, he points out, and the people of both India and China attach great importance to family.

The actor’s love affair, so to speak, with China started when Dangal rake in nearly 1.3 billion yuan ($190 million) at the Chinese box office. These astounding collections set a new record for an Indian film’s overseas earnings. So it really is no surprise that the star-producer has China on the mind.

“There are many Chinese actors who are very talented... I really want to do films with talents from China. Your Chinese talents and us Indians, we should make a film together. I believe it'll be wonderful,” gushed Aamir to news agency Xinhua.

“I would like to see a lot of collaboration between creative people from China and India, making stories that people from both countries would love to see. I think it will bring the two countries closer. It will be wonderful for Indian audience to see Chinese actors and Chinese talents,” he maintained.

Aamir’s latest film Secret Superstar releases in the Chinese mainland today and the actor is clearly hoping it follows in the very successful footsteps of his Dangal. “In Dangal, I'm very serious. In Secret Superstar, I'm very funny,” he said, giving his Chinese fans a small clue on what to expect from his new film there.

Incidentally, while Indian films in the Chinese mainland usually hit the screens at least six months after their premiere in India, Secret Superstar is coming out after just a three-month delay. This is a clear sign of the optimism of the Chinese distributors of the film. Aamir Khan, the real secret superstar of the Chinese film screen?! We guess so!
