Deepika Padukone plays a Traffic cop for ad film shot in Mumbai

You won’t be forgiven if you think this exclusive picture of Deepika Padukone is from Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s rechristened period drama Padmaavat. God forbid! The Rani Padmini is unlikely to have ever sat on an elephant or horse, much less a jeep belonging to the Traffic Police. But here is the gorgeous actress, in the run up to the release of her film, playing a Traffic cop for a shoot. It’s a role she has never played in Bollywood before. And Deepika won’t for some time to come. She’s been an action heroine in Bajirao Mastani and XXX: The Return of Xander Cage for Bollywood and Hollywood respectively. But Deepika has never played a cop before.

PeepingMoon.com sources reveal that this is no Bollywood action flick that Deepika was shooting for. The Rani Padmini of Padmaavat was shooting for an ad film at Aarey Colony in Film City, Mumbai, on Saturday. And that’s where our sleuthing paparazzo got this picture. The commercial being shot is reportedly for the online hotels and airlines booking giant Goibibo. Deepika very obviously plays a Traffic constable. Though a tapori kind of cop going by the red handkerchief tied around her wrist.

Mumbai’s Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Amitesh Kumar would not be amused or take kindly to any of his staff taking a break on the hood of a police jeep. But this is apparently part of the ad. And ad films spin dreams for consumers. So if Deepika is selling a holiday, then the script for the same demands her being a lazy and insolent kind of Traffic cop perhaps.

c Meanwhile we are wondering what the actress’ beau, the exciting and effervescent Ranveer Singh, is going to say about this. If Deepika is endorsing Goibibo, then Ranveer is the brand ambassador of MakeMyTrip – which is an online travel company and in a way competition.
