“Simmba should become a benchmark,” says Ranveer

Ranveer Singh dwells in the moment and has moved on from raving about working with Sanjay Leela Bhansali in Padmavati. All he has on the brain now is the Rohit Shetty-directed, Karan Johar-produced Simmba, which will see him play the badass cop, Sangram Bhalerao. The first poster of the film has already whipped up huge interest, as it flaunted a gaudy and garish Ranveer clad in a policeman’s uniform teamed with bright red sunglasses and a silver chain.

Talking about the upcoming film, Ranveer admitted that while he is looking forward to the film given his love for '90s masala films, he is also a tad nervous. “I am very nervous too because it is not easy to perform in mainstream films and it’s not easy to make one either. It could be called my biggest solo outing. It is my first ‘in and as’ film,” he pointed out.
He adds, “I have admired Rohit sir’s work for a very long time now. We also have Karan Johar as the producer in this film. It’s a genre or brand of cinema that I thoroughly love. Of course, socially, I interact with people who are the ‘multiplex audience’, but my heart is ‘massy’ and that’s actually what I get a huge kick out of.”

His excitement bubbles over as he shares, “My aim is to make the best Rohit Shetty film, with whatever I can contribute from my end as the leading man. I want to make Simmba his best film. I feel we should make such a high voltage mainstream film that it should become the benchmark for performances in the mainstream zone. I am extremely blessed and thankful that I got this incredible opportunity.”

Earlier Rohit Shetty had revealed that Simmba would be a full-on actioner. “This will be the first time people will see Ranveer performing so many action sequences. He has great energy and after working with him in a commercial, even I believe so.”

These guys are going to set some benchmarks alright!
