Mahabharata on their minds: Aamir and Fatima prepping for the epic film?

A picture, it is said, is worth a thousand words. And this one is sure giving us food for thought, as its clever photographer probably intended to… Ever since Fatima Sana Shaikh shared a simple yet charming image of her breakfast table, complete with brown bread, jam, coffee and an opened book, the world and its uncle has been fixating on what she is reading: The Mahabharata. Not because we are shocked by her interest in Indian mythology but because her mentor Aamir Khan has been similarly smitten by the epic too these days!

The Thugs of Hindostan superstar has been mulling over a film on the Mahabharata since a while, actually. During promotions of his film, Secret Superstar, he had divulged, “My dream project is to make the Mahabharata but I’m afraid of starting the project as I know it will consume at least 15-20 years of my life. My favourite character is Karna, but I don’t know if I’ll be able to play him due to my physique. I may just have to play Krishna. I also liked the character of Arjun. He was the only person who asked Krishna why he had to kill his own people.”

Aamir had also revealed that if Baahubali director SS Rajamouli ever made a film on the Mahabharata, he would love to be a part of it. However, Aamir being the stickler for detail that he is, also intended to conduct extensive research to make certain that the characters would be appropriately depicted, if the film is ever made.

Fatima’s reading of the epic seems to confirm the talk that Aamir is finally taking his dream forward. After all, post her debut in Dangal, the lass has impressed Aamir enough to get cast in the forthcoming Thugs of Hindostan as well. The Mahabharata franchise could well be their third outing together.

But going with Aamir's other dream project, as intends to do a sci-fi project which will be done on the scale of Hollywood’s epic space films series Star Wars, we wonder if The Mahabharata franchise will see the light of the day! So will Fatima be a part of this project? Too early to speculate!
