“I can’t put a year to it”…And so Deepika fobs off marriage talk yet again!

We are so loving Deepika’s disarmingly natural revelations about rumoured beau, Ranveer Singh. Ask her what's the best thing about Ranveer's company, and she replies with candour, “When we're with each other, we don't need anything or anyone else. We're comfortable in each other's presence. Sometimes it's intelligent conversation, sometimes just silence, sometimes there's a childlike innocence. We keep each other grounded. We are good in that sense.”

Of course, old habits die hard and when the topic veers to when she plans to take her relationship to the next level, the familiar façade of feigned ignorance slips in… “Hmmm...and what would the next level be? It's not obvious. I don't know if marriage per se... Because I believe every relationship has its natural progression. I'm discovering that myself.” How very diplomatic, how essentially Deepika.

To talk of her possibly planning to settle down in 2018, she stresses, “I can't put a year to it. Honestly, I've never been able to do anything that is time bound. I believe relationships have their way of unfolding. As far as my equation with him is concerned, I am sure that will unfold in its own manner. I can't wait to be a homemaker. Because from the time I was a little girl, I've always wanted to be that. I've always wanted to start a family.”

Charming as that picture is which she paints, we do think it will be at least half a decade before she actually finds the inclination and the time to allow domesticity to enter the frame. And really, why fix something that ain’t broke? The two seem to be onto a great thing. A smitten Ranveer clearly worships the ground she walks on. Not long ago, he was raving about what a good feeling it was to have “someone you can confide in. It’s comforting. It’s great to have someone who can relate to your problems.”

Let the honeymoon last; marriage can wait!
