Sonam & Ekta take on online, social media bashers

There’s something about the ladies working on Veere Di Wedding that nameless and faceless people hiding behind the anonymity of social media and online media cannot take for granted.

The film has been bedeviled by its own problems. And just when it’s rolling along in New Delhi, last thing actress Sonam Kapoor and producer Ekta Kapoor want is “blind items” that reportedly bitch them out.

Sonam took exception to a blind item in an online media that credited her for a catfight on the sets of the all-girl star cast with none other than leading actress Kareena Kapoor Khan.

"Dear websites, you can put out as many 'blind items' (a.k.a gossip you were too lazy to fact check) as you like pitting women against each other, it may get you clicks but it won't be the truth. Must you insist on shoving this tired patriarchal concept of women cat fighting into our film (which is not about  a road trip) as if grown, intelligent women have nothing better to do. We will continue to be actual friends and try and make a kick ass movie and prove that women can work with each other, get along and have a blast. Because we can, we are and we will continue to. And on schedule. Please keep in mind how outdated, irresponsible and harmful your narrative is and frustrating for a culture of women who actually want to work together. There is no place for it anymore.

Sincerely, The Cast and Crew of Veere  Di Wedding (Our items aren't blind)"

And Ekta Kapoor, who might be a starry producer but is not a fashion icon, attacked another digital platform fang and claw on her Facebook page for apparently body shaming her.

While Sonam rather cattily asked if grown up and intelligent women had nothing better than to indulge in cat fights, Ekta wanted to know if a male producer had ever been body shamed for what he wore?

"Thanks for the Body Shaming! I am a producer. I don't have to b a fashion icon! But have u ever body shamed a male producer or director on wat they wear????"

Tsk, tsk… the people behind these stories whose cases were taken fast and furious by the actress and producer of this all-girls’ film must realize that it’s not always a case of cherchez la femme!
