Films and egos... Will Amitabh-Deepika clash again?

While December 1 has been marked out on every film buff’s calendar – it’s the day Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s larger-than-life Padmavati keeps its date with the box office – another release has all but disappeared from the radar. It’s natural that the Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor starrer is grabbing all the attention but one would have thought an Amitabh Bachchan-Rishi Kapoor combination, last seen onscreen 26 years ago, would come in for some share of the noise, right?

102 Not Out is the film starring these two Hindi film veterans, which also releases on the same day as Padmavati. While Bhansali’s period magnum opus is already on a publicity blitzkrieg, not much is to be heard about 102 Not Out, a social drama with Rishi playing Bachchan’s son. In fact, the makers might well decide to shift the release date to avoid a clash with the Bhansali biggie.

This move might just help avoid another bigger clash - of egos! Post-Piku it was rumoured that both Deepika and her onscreen father, played by Amitabh Bachchan were locked in a tussle over who was the main reason for the film’s success. This quiet conflict came out in the open when shockingly Amitabh Bachchan had been left out of the guest list of the big splashy do that Deepika had hosted to celebrate the film’s success. Everyone from Shah Rukh Khan and Alia Bhatt to Ranveer Singh, had attended to toast Piku’s lovely leading lady – but for Bachchan, who had played an equally important role in the film and its success. A seemingly distraught Deepika went on to clarify, “It was a major technical error on my part and by the time it came to my notice it was too late and I'll never forgive myself for it… I am so embarrassed that I have not even had the courage to call him after that. I did eventually text him, couple of days ago but I have still not had the courage to pick up the phone and even explain myself to him. But I will. It was a major technical thing.”

The more we think about it, the more sensible the idea of a release postponement!
