Fresh FIR lodged against Kangana Ranaut for her ‘Khalistani Movement’ comment on Sikh community in the wake of repealing Farm Laws

Kangana Ranaut is facing fresh legal troubles. A new FIR has been lodged against the actress at Khar police station in Mumbai regarding her Instagram story over hate-filled context against Sikhs. The actress allegedly tagged the farmers’ protest as Khalistani movement. The FIR comes a day after the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) submitted a complaint against the actor. A delegation of the committee led by its president Manjinder Singh Sirsa met senior police officials in Mumbai on Monday and asked legal actions to be taken against the actress for hurting Sikh sentiments time and again.

The FIR has been lodged under section 295A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for her hateful comments. Reportedly, further investigations are underway in the matter.

Kangana on Saturday had posted on Instagram, “khalistani terrorists may be arm twisting the government today but lets not forget one woman , the only woman prime minister ne inn ko apni jhutti ke niche crush kiya tha… No matter how much suffering she caused to this nation... she crushed them like mosquitoes at the cost of her own life... Lekin desh ke tukde nahi hone diye (but didn't let the country disintegrate) even after decades of her death aaj bhi uske naam se kaampte hai yeh inko vaisa he guru chahiye (even today, they shiver at her name, they need a guru like her),” as she referred to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi who launched Operation Blue Star at the Golden Temple in Amritsar in 1984 that also resulted in her assassination.

Her post has received tremendous backlash from Sikhs across the country as well as political leaders. The Indian Youth Congress (IYC) and the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC), too, filed police complaints against Kangana on Saturday for allegedly making seditious and derogatory remarks. IYC national secretary Amreesh Ranjan Pandey and Ambuj Dixit, co-coordinator of the outfit’s legal cell also filed complaint against the actress at the Parliament Street Police Station in New Delhi. Kangana’s posts came after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the Centre will be taking back the three farm laws that were passed last year.
