Esplanade Court grants bail to Ajaz Khan on surety of Rs 1 lakh over sharing objectionable videos that incite enmity

A Mumbai Court has granted bail to actor Ajaz Khan o surety of Rs 1 lakh. He was sent to judicial custody for 14 days on July 20 after a case was registered against him for creating/uploading objectionable videos that could incite violence and be detrimental to a peaceful society by promoting enmity between different religious groups.

Ajaz was arrested on July 18 by Mumbai’s cyber police. He was arrested after he posted a Tik Tok video mocking the Mumbai police. The video was deemed ‘communal’ in nature. Ajaz was arrested under section 153A that deals with promoting enmity between two groups and section 67 that deals with transmitting obscene material in electronic form.

The police had received a complaint against Ajaz along with few videos which have gone viral on social media, said a press release. Indian filmmaker Ashoke Pandit had also apparently lodged a police complaint against the actor on July 16. He had alleged that Ajaz is a threat to Indian society.

It is not the first time that Ajaz had a brush with the law. Last year he was arrested for possessing a banned narcotic substance. He was arrested by Anti Narcotics Cell of the Mumbai police with eight ecstasy tablets.
