Kapil Sharma reveals media reports made him realise he had depression, credits wife Ginni Chatrath for staying with him like a 'strong pillar'

Kapil Sharma started his journey as a comedian by participating in the third season of The Great Indian Laughter Challenge. After doing multiple reality shows, he launched his own show titled Comedy Nights with Kapil, in 2013. Three years later, he started another show, The Kapil Sharma Show. The biweekly comedian show made him a household name. However, after a year, Kapil decided to shut it.

Now, at an event, Kapil, who is back with another season of The Kapil Sharma Show post paternity break, revealed the reason behind shutting the show in 2017. He told, "So at that moment, you don’t feel that anything will change because all things seem negative at that time. Don’t know what kind of chemical gets released in your brain that doesn’t allow you to think positively. But my family gave me strength at the time, especially my wife, Ginni. She knew everything about what was happening in my life. No one else did."

Kapil further added that he realised he had depression through media reports. Crediting his wife Ginni Chatrath for being his constant support, Kapil said, "So, at that moment, you don't feel that anything will change because all things seem negative at that time. Don't know what kind of chemical gets released in your brain that doesn't allow you to think positively. But my family gave me strength at the time, especially my wife, Ginni. She knew everything about what was happening in my life. No one else did. My mother knew nothing about mental illnesses and depression, she is a woman from a small village. Not just her, even I did not have much of an idea about it... Paper walon ka bhala ho jinhone likha 'Kapil Sharma hue depression ka shikaar'. Mujhe pata chala, accha, ye hai mujhe."

He shared, "Ginni stayed with me like a strong pillar. She is a big strength for me in my life. She told me that the public loves me and that I should go back to work. ‘Restart your show, you will feel good’."

For the unversed, in 2017, rumours had it that Kapil began cancelling his shoots and would also arrive late. Reportedly, he made celebrities like Ajay Devgn and Shah Rukh Khan for long hours. After his fight with co-star Sunil Grover, the show's ratings took a dip. In 2018, he returned with the next season of the show and it was loved by the audience.
