Doordarshan brings back '80s classic sitcoms 'Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi' and 'Idhar Udhar' amid lockdown

COVID-19 took over the world earlier this year. With a complete lockdown in India, the entertainment industry was also brought to a standstill. But while confined to their homes, the Indian audience got a major surprise from Doordarshan. The channel, ever since the lockdown was announced, started offering the re-runs of iconic television shows. From Ramayan to Mahabharat and several others, these shows had people glued to the small screen. Now, the channel is all set to bring back two of the classic sitcoms of the 80s Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi and Idhar Udhar.

Written by popular satirist Sharad Joshi and directed by Kundan Shah, Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi first aired in 1984. The show starred late Shafi Inamdar, Swaroop Sampat, Rakesh Bedi, Satish Shah, and Tiku Talsania. The show revolved around a quirky couple Ranjit and Renu Verma and their day-to-day life. The title track, sung by Kishore Kumar, was also quite popular.

Idhar Udhar, which originally aired in 1985, featured sisters Ratna Pathak Shah and Supriya Pathak. Directed by Anand Mahendroo, the story revolved around two girls, who are living as paying guests in Mumbai, and how their lives take an interesting turn when they have to share the flat with a struggling actor and a broker.

The Indian audience will undoubtedly be excited about these comebacks by Doordarshan!
