Box Office Collection Day 1: Chiranjeevi starrer ‘Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy’ and Joaquin Phoenix’s ‘Joker’ opens well

Chiranjeevi’s period film Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy has finally released and the film has definitely lived up to all the hype surrounding it. The film which is just a day old has opened to a positive response from both the audience and the critics. On its first day, the period drama has raked in Rs 2.60 crores in Hindi. Also, Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy has performed extremely well in Chennai that is the Tamil and Telugu version of the film.

Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy is a period drama based on the life of freedom fighter Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy who fought in what is known to be the first war of Independence against the British Rule in India. The movie features an ensemble cast of Shri Amitabh Bachchan, Dr. Chiranjeevi, Kichcha Sudeep, Vijay Sethupathi, Jagapathi Babu, Ravi Kishan, Nayanthara, Tamannaah and Niharika which makes the movie a must-watch. Produced by Ram Charan, Excel Entertainment and AA Films in association with Konidela Productions, Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy stars the greatest Indian ensemble cast of all times. The film directed by Surender Reddy.

On the other hand, Hollywood release Joker managed to live up to the expectations and come tops at the box office as well. With Avengers: Endgame many thought that Marvel had decimated DC’s future but little did they know that a fictional origin story of Batman’s arch-nemesis will become one of its biggest films. Named after its villain, the film Joker was one of the most-anticipated films of 2019 and managed to light up the silver screen. 

Starring Joaquin Phoenix and directed by Todd Phillips the film had a decent opening of around Rs 5 crore. The film has already received rave reviews and Phoenix is touted to be a frontrunner at this year’s Oscar. The film’s collection will surely increase in the days to come as it has received tremendous reviews and positive word-of-mouth. The film chronicles the story of a clown by hire named  Arthur Fleck who lives with his mother Penny in an impoverished neighbourhood of Gotham. However, he is often ridiculed and beaten up. The film depicts his descent into madness in an apathetic society. 

Ayushmann Khurrana’s Dream Girl is maintaining its pace even after Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy and Joker released. The film has fetched a cool Rs 132.35 crores in its three-week run. The film has managed to tickle the funny bones of the audience with its quirky storyline. 
 

The film also stars Nushrat Bharucha, Annu Kapoor, Manjot Singh and Vijay Raaz. It is directed by Raaj Shaandilya.
