Box Office Day 9: Akshay Kumar’s ‘Mission Mangal’ continues to wreak havoc, John Abraham’s ‘Batla House’ remains steady

This year’s Independence Day marked the second face-off of John Abraham and Akshay Kumar at the box office as their films Batla House and Mission Mangal both released on the same date. However, neither of the films ate at the other’s business and both are going great guns at the box office. Talking about Akshay’s Mission Mangal first, the film has already grossed Rs 135.99 crores and is looking into rake in more moolah due to Janmashtami holidays and the weekend.

Mission Mangal has become Akshay’s second highest-grossing film. The film is based on ISRO’s Mars Orbiter Mission and also stars Vidya Balan, Sonakshi Sinha, Taapsee Pannu, Nithya Menen, Kirti Kulhari and Sharman Joshi in the lead. The film has been directed by Jagan Shakti.

On the other hand, John’s Batla House had a great start as it minted Rs 15.55 crore on the first day of its release. It has maintained its steady trend and with the Janmashtami holiday and weekend, it will have a good second-week collection as well.

Batla House is based on the Batla House encounter case, officially known as Operation Batla House that took place on September 19, 2008. The film also stars Mrunal Thakur and is directed by Nikkhil Advani. Till date, the film has minted Rs 69.99 crores at the box office.
