Box Office: Ayushmann Khurrana’s ‘Article 15’ gets a decent opening; Shahid Kapoor’s ‘Kabir Singh’ maintains its tremendous growth

Ayushmann Khurrana’s new film Article 15 opened to a decent start at the box office and fetched Rs 5.03 crores. The film had a dull start in the morning but gained momentum during the evening shows on Day 1. It is expected to gain speed on the weekends and the majority of the moolah is expected from high-end multiplexes and metropolitan cities.

Article 15 is the second highest opener for Ayushmann whose Badhaai Ho which was a Dussehra release raked in Rs 7.35 on Day 1. The film has received positive reviews and that should help it gain momentum in the days to come. Directed by Anubhav Sinha the film also stars Isha Talwar, Manoj Pahwa, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Sayani Gupta, Namashi Chakraborty, Kumud Mishra and others.

On the other hand, Shahid Kapoor’s and Kiara Advani’s Kabir Singh is going strong although the film saw a slight drop in collections on Thursday. The film has already crossed the Rs 100 crore mark becoming Shahid’s first film in a career spanning 15 years to do so. The film is expected to cross Rs 150 crore by today evening as per a trade analyst. 

Kabir Singh garnered the best second Friday of 2019 and scored higher numbers than all films released this year. It has managed to rake in money in double digits which is exceptional. The film is the official Hindi remake of Telugu super hit Arjun Reddy and is directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga who also helmed the original.
