Box Office: Luka Chuppi opens well at the theatres, Sonchiriya off to a dull start

There were two new releases today- Kartik Aaryan and Kriti Sanon starrer Luka Chuppi and Sushant Singh Rajput, Bhumi Pednekar, Manoj Bajpayee, Ashutosh Rana and Ranvir Shorey starrer Sonchiriya. The two films are as different from each other as chalk and cheese and cater to different audience as well as falls in different genres.

However, Kartik’s and Kriti’s film witnessed a better opening of around 20% since it is aimed at the young audience and is a romantic comedy for the family audience. The film also received a boost from a few of its peppy songs that had piqued the audience’s interest. Directed by Laxman Utekar and also starring Aparshakti Khurana, Vinay Pathak and Pankaj Tripathi in pivotal roles the film has received good reviews from critics and is appealing to the masses as well.

On the other hand, Abhishek Chaubey’s Sonchiriya is a very gripping and gritty affair that has pleased the critics but might not do wonders at the box office. The film started off with poor collections and might face stiff competition from Luka Chuppi at the box office in the days to come.

Sonchiriya might also fall prey to the current mood of the nation as the tensions across the border might prove a deterrent for people to go and watch a serious film at the theatres. Nevertheless, let us keep our fingers crossed and hope that the film takes off in the days to come.
