Box Office: Akshay’s Gold is inching towards Rs 100 crore; John’s Satyameva Jayate is a hit!

Akshay Kumar’s Gold and John Abraham's and Manoj Bajpayee’s Satyameva Jayate are continuing their golden run at the box office. Released on the same date, on August 15, Independence Day the films slumped only on Day 2 but picked up speed during the weekend and have crossed the Rs 50 crore mark at the ticket window smoothly.

Satyameva Jayate ended the first week run on a high note. On Thursday, its 9-day collections were Rs 75.09 crore. Besides, Manoj and John the film also stars Aisha Sharma and Amruta Khanvilkar. The film directed by Milap Zaveri deals with the issue of corruption and molestation. Zaveri shared the collections on his social media account and also shared a candid click from the sets of the film.

Sharing a picture of Manoj and John, Zaveri credited the two actors for lending their support for the film which has now proved to be their biggest commercial hit. The film has been declared a super hit on its way.

On the other hand, Reema Kagti directed Gold which is a sports film inspired by the true event of India’s first gold medal win at the London Olympics in 1948 has also been raking in the moolah. The film has collected over Rs 88 crores and is steadily inching towards Rs 100 crore club. Besides, Akshay the film also stars Mouni Roy, Vineet Singh, Kunal Kapoor, Amit Sadh and Sunny Kaushal in integral roles. Gold is produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani under their Excel Movies banner.

Akshay’s film is doing good business at the theatres but is expected to do more during the weekend taking into account his star power. Hopefully, the film will cross the Rs 100 crore mark by the weekend.

Sonakshi Sinha's Happy Phir Bhag Jayegi will be giving them stiff competition as it released today. The film also stars Jimmy Sheirgill, Jassie Gill, Piyush Mishra and Diana Penty.
