Box Office Day 2: Akshay Kumar’s Gold shows decline in numbers; to pick momentum over the weekend

Akshay Kumar and Mouni Roy starrer Gold that released on August 15, on Independence Day had a great first-day collection. Directed by Reema Kagti the film collected a cool Rs 25.25 crore on its first day itself. However, on Thursday it witnessed a decline and collected  Rs 8 crore. Its total is now at Rs 33.25 crore in India. However, it should gain momentum from today as the weekend is around the corner.

Gold is a film inspired by true events that led India’s first gold medal win at the London Olympics in 1948 as a free and independent, sovereign nation. The victory is more noteworthy because the Indian team defeated England in the finals and for the first time India’s flag and National Anthem was played in the stadium.

The film also stars Kunal Kapoor, Vineet Singh and Sunny Kaushal in lead roles. Gold is produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani under their Excel Movies banner. Gold’s box office took a decline on Thursday which is generally the case after a holiday as it was a regular working day. Also, keeping in mind that Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee passed away on Thursday, August 16, 2018, it might have an impact on the public’s morale. Today, the entire country has been in mourning as a state funeral was organized for the prolific leader and well-loved and revered statesman.

However, after Friday, things should pick up for Akshay’s film due to the weekend rush, and Gold should resume its fine run at the box office. It also has a direct competition with John Abraham and Manoj Bajpayee starrer Satyameva Jayate which also released on August 15. However, both the films received a solid first-day opening and witnessed a slump on Thursday, but should keep their hopes up.
