Black Widow trailer: Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff comes home to face a new enemy, Taskmaster

Marvel Cinematic Universe sure knows how to keep its fans happy. After dropping the trailer of Jared Leto’s antihero Morbius they have now unveiled a brand new trailer of Scarlett Johansson’s standalone film Black Widow. The new trailer introduces a brand new villain to the MCU- the Taskmaster, a trained mercenary. The superhero film marks the beginning of Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 4 after Avengers: Endgame.

In the trailer, we get to see Natasha returning home and reuniting with her sister-figure Yelena Belova played by Florence Pugh. Belova becomes the second Black Widow in the comic series. David Harbour plays Alexei Shostakov aka Red Guardian, a Soviet equivalent of Captain America who calls them ‘his family’. Rachel Weisz plays Melina Vostokoff who was also trained as the Black Widow. However, all eyes turn to the altercation between the Taskmaster and Natasha. Taskmaster is a sort of antihero and is known to mimic the physical capabilities of anyone he is fighting with.

The film also stars O-T Fagbenle as Rick Mason, William Hurt as US Secretary of State Thaddeus Ross and Ray Winstone and Olivier Richters. Robert Downey Jr. will also reprise his role as Tony Stark/Iron Man in an unknown capacity, that is because Black Widow is set after the events of Captain America: Civil War and prior to Avengers: Endgame.

Black Widow is directed by Cate Shortland and the script is written by Jac Schaeffer and Ned Benson. The film is slated to release on May 1, 2020, in the US and on April 30, 2020, in India.
