Dark Waters is based on the true story of Rob Bilott who fought a legal battle against chemical giant DuPont in West Virginia. The corporation was dumping illegal toxic C8, used in the making of Teflon into the water reservoirs that affected nearly 70,000 local residents with severe ailments and death. The incident occurred in the 1990s and was widely publicized. The company DuPont Chemicals found that its toxic wastes were poisoning the residents of a small town for almost forty years but still continued with its production.
