Disney+Hotstar has sanctioned the second season of its 2019 drama series Out Of Love that chronicles the trappings of a marriage marred by deception and lies. The lead actors Rasika Dugal and Purab Kohli are reprising their roles and began the shooting earlier this week in Coonoor, Tamil Nadu. The sophomore season, however, will be an original script, unlike the first one that was adapted from BBC Studio's 2015 psychological drama, Doctor Foster by Mike Bartlett, Peepingmoon.com has learned.
Sources aware of the development have informed us that Out Of Love season 2 will no longer follow the original British drama series. "The first season that streamed in November last year revolved around Rasika's character Dr. Meera Kapoor whose seemingly perfect life is shaken up after she finds about her husband's affair with a much younger woman. It demonstrated the universality of the themes of a complex relationship, insecurities and betrayal. The season ended with Meera starting a new life for herself as a single parent. While the second season carries the story forward from where it ended, the team of the writers has cracked an original script to follow it up. The second season will be a custody battle," the source informed us.
Moreover, the new season will now be directed by Oni Sen who made his directorial debut with Voot Select's crime-thriller series, Asur that was critically praised for blending the genres of suspense, mythology and murder mystery. Sen is taking over the direction duty from the first season directors Tigmanshu Dhulia and Aijaz Khan. Rasika Dugal who's currently been flooded with accolades for her brilliant performances in Amazon Prime's Mirzapur Season 2 and Mira Nair's A Suitable Boy will reportedly be dealing with a different set of challenges in this new season. Her character is expected to go through an emotionally tumultuous ride throughout the season.
Out Of Love Season 2, produced by BBC Studios, has already started the production and will be wrapped up by mid-December. Hotstar has scheduled to premiere the new installment in the first quarter of 2021!
