Actor-singer Kara Oberoi was granted bail on June 7 by the Bombay High Court in the rape and extortion case filed against him. A 34-year-old woman astrologer had claimed that Karan had raped her after spiking her drink and recorded a video of the act that she claimed he used to extort money out of her. The case however, is based on shaky ground as judged by a sessions court.
Karan’s friend actor Pooja Bedi who has been a vocal supporter of him behind the ordeal is one of the voices behind the ‘#MenToo’ movement and has defended Karan’s innocence in the case. She revealed to a leading daily that a public rally will be held on June 15 from 11 am to 1 pm at Azad Maidan where supporters of #MenToo movement will assemble.
She said, “We are going to take bytes of people, and capture the sentiment about fake cases that is gripping the nation. We want to start changing things and are taking concrete measures to ensure that this initiative gains momentum.” She also revealed that Karan is overwhelmed by all the support that he has garnered. She said, “He (Karan) is now determined to take this forward and make sure that this does not happen to any other man. He said that there were 600 cases similar to his in just Taloja jail (Navi Mumbai).”
The complainant had also accused Karan of masterminding an attack on her by unknown persons. She filed an FIR against four unknown persons who accosted her during her morning walk and slashed her right arm and threw a paper at her that had the words, “‘TAKE THE CASE BACK’.”
However, later on her lawyer revealed that she herself had masterminded the attack on herself. The lawyer has been arrested.
