Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra's Chamkila is one of the most awaited films on Netflix. Based on the life of Punjabi singer Amar Singh Chamkila and his wife, the biopic is directed by Imtiaz Ali with music by A R Rahman. After a long wait, the makers announced its release date.
Chamkila will be premiering on Netflix on April 12. Sharing a clip on Netflix's Instagram page, the makers wrote, "Maahaul bann jaata tha jab vo chedta tha saaz, kuch aisa hi tha Chamkila ka Andaaz. @imtiazaliofficial’s #AmarSinghChamkila arriving on 12 April, only on Netflix!"
Amar Singh Chamkila shot to fame in the ‘80s with his songs that spoke of extramarital relationships, coming-of-age, drinking, drug use, and the patriarchal mindset of Punjabi men. Though controversial, he earned fame overnight. Chamkila and his wife Amarjot were killed in an assassination in Punjab’s Mehsampur in 1988.
