Five days before their 4th wedding anniversary, Tollywood's star couple Samantha Akkineni (née Ruth Prabhu) and Naga Chaitanya announced their separation. On Saturday, they issued a statement and asked fans and the media to give them some privacy. While fans are yet to process this news, a news portal's report stated that as a part of the marriage settlement or alimony, Samantha was reportedly offered Rs 200 crores by Chaitanya and his family.
Samantha, who has worked hard to become one of the top Telugu actresses, reportedly refused to take the alimony. The portal's report mentioned that the actress decided to not take a single penny from Chaitanya or his family as she is a self-made woman who has come a long way with her hard work and perseverance. Reportedly, Samantha and Chaitanya will be filing for divorce by mutual consent.
A source close to Samantha told the portal that the actress will now shift her focus to her professional commitments as she doesn't want her personal life problems to affect the projects she is associated with. "It’s not easy for Samantha to get up and go to work every day. She is massively heartbroken. But she doesn’t want any project that she is associated with to suffer because of her personal life. She has always been a thorough professional and continues to be, putting up a brave front every day. It’s not in her to be unprofessional," the source told.
The rumour of Chaitanya and Samantha's separation sparked off after the actress dropped her surname 'Akkineni' from social media. Later, her absence from parties hosted by the Akkineni family added fuel.
