It’s a wrap for Mani Ratnam’s period drama Ponniyin Selvan. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who headlines the film, took to social media to share the news of the film’s shoot completion after the makers announced it. They shared a new poster of Ponniyin Selvan with the release date. Based on the Tamil literary novel of the same name, Ponniyin Selvan will be made in two parts. The first part is set to release in theatres in summer, 2022.
Ever since the lockdown restrictions eased across the country, the actress started shooting for the period drama. The team of Ponniyin Selvan shot extensively in Puducherry and then shifted to Hyderabad for the next schedule. Reportedly, Aishwarya shot for an elaborate song in Maheshwar, Madhya Pradesh.
Ponniyin Selvan features an ensemble cast that includes Aishwarya, Trisha Krishnan, Chiyaan Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Prakash Raj, Aishwarya Lekshmi and Jayaram, among others.

The screenplay of Ponniyin Selvan is written by Ratnam, Elango Kumaravel and B Jeyamohan. The period drama is jointly produced by Lyca Productions and Madras Talkies.
