Rajinikanth disowns leaked letter on his political entry, says 'the information on my health and doctors’ advice true'

Superstar Rajinikanth today hinted at a rethink on joining electoral politics and said he would announce his stand at an "appropriate time" amid speculation triggered by a letter that many believed was written by him and leaked. 

As the leaked letter went viral, Rajinikanth clarified today that it was not written by him, though the information it contained about his health is true. The 69-year-old said he will discuss the proceedings of the party with the members of Rajini Makkal Mandram, and announce his political stand “at an appropriate time”. “The leaked letter is not mine but the information on my health and doctors’ advice is true. I shall discuss with Rajini Makkal Mandram and shall announce my political stand at an appropriate time,” the actor tweeted.

The circulation of the letter comes amid speculations over the actor’s formal entry into politics. His hashtag “#Rajinikanth” following the circulation of the letter was trending for a long time. The leaked letter was written in the style adopted by the actor’s press statement.

The Tamil Nadu election, which was widely believed to be his debut poll, will take place in about seven months. His entry into the election battle was projected as the "x-factor" in Tamil Nadu, a state where film stars have largely transited successfully into politics.
