Storyline
‘Nayyi Navelli’ follows Mohini (Yami Gautam), a mysterious new bride who enters the Awasthi household in Meerut and transforms its chaotic atmosphere into one of warmth and harmony. Her husband, Raja (Addinath M. Kothare), adores her, but his younger brother Bantu (Anurag Thakur) becomes suspicious of her unusual behaviour and begins wondering whether his seemingly perfect sister-in-law is actually a daayan. As strange incidents unfold, the film blends family drama, supernatural mystery, mythology and comedy to explore Mohini's extraordinary identity. What begins with the arrival of a new bride soon becomes a quirky, unpredictable adventure that challenges the family's understanding of the woman living among them. The story gives a supernatural twist to familiar family dynamics while exploring the different sides of a woman who is far more powerful than anyone could imagine.
Acting
Yami Gautam is the whole and sole of ‘Nayyi Navelli’, and she absolutely kills it! An amazingly talented actress, she brings fun, mystery, quirkiness and power to Mohini, capturing the idea that a woman can be a nurturer, Kali or Durga, depending on what the moment demands. Anurag Thakur is a complete delight as Bantu, keeping the humour alive with his hilarious reactions, comic timing and constant suspicion of Mohini. Addinath M. Kothare is extremely cute as Raja, bringing warmth and affection to the role while adding interesting shades to his character. Sunita Rajwar, Sushmita Mukherjee, Mita Vashisht and Aaditya Kulshreshth also contribute wonderfully to the film's quirky family dynamic.
Direction
Balaji Mohan brings an entertaining and refreshing approach to this supernatural family entertainer. He balances devotion, mythology, humour, mystery and family relationships without making the film feel preachy. The quirky treatment gives familiar cultural beliefs a contemporary twist, making the film especially enjoyable during the festive season.
Dialogues
The dialogues are fun, quirky and engaging, with several moments that can give you goosebumps. The writing balances humour with devotion and powerful ideas about women without turning the narrative into a lecture. It allows the mythology-inspired moments to make their impact while keeping the entertainment quotient alive.
Music
G. V. Prakash Kumar's music adds to the film's colourful and entertaining world. From energetic, party-friendly tracks to emotional numbers, the soundtrack offers variety and gives audiences songs to revisit long after the film. The music complements the film's quirky personality and festive energy.
Overall
‘Nayyi Navelli’ is a funny and refreshing watch, making it especially worth watching during Navratri if you enjoy stories that give Indian mythology a cool, contemporary twist.
