Catherine Zeta-Jones has been cast in the National Treasure series for Disney+, Dane DeHaan comes on board for Christopher Nolan's next Oppenheimer, Kristen Wiig and Laura Dern’s comedy series Mrs. American Pie to stream at Apple and Anna Nicole Smith’s biopic Hurricana in the works.

Catherine Zeta-Jones cast in National Treasure series at Disney+ directed by Mira Nair

Disney has announced that Catherine Zeta-Jones will join the National Treasure series for Disney Plus. She will play Billie. However, not much is known about the character except that she has been described as a badass billionaire, black-market antiquities expert and treasure hunter who follows her own code of conduct. Hers is rags-to-riches story where she transforms herself from a penniless orphan to a shrewd, stylish businesswoman and adventurer. Billie’s used to getting what she wants—and she wants the Pan-American treasure. But not just for the money. This treasure has deeper stakes for her. The series also stars Lisette Alexis, Zuri Reed, Jordan Rodrigues, Antonio Cipriano, Jake Austin Walker, and Lyndon Smith. The series is a continuation of the National Treasure film series, which starred Nicolas Cage, Jon Voight, Diane Kruger, and Justin Bartha. Mira Nair will direct the series.

Dane DeHaan comes on board for Christopher Nolan's ‘Oppenheimer’

Dane DeHaan has been signed to play a role in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer. The actor will star alongside an ensemble star cast including Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, Florence Pugh, Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, Rami Malek, Benny Safdie, and Josh Hartnett. Reportedly the film is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer by Kai Bird and the late Martin J. Sherwin. The film is slated to debut in theatres on July 21, 2023.

Anna Nicole Smith’s biopic in the works

The tragic final days of model, actress and former Playboy Playmate Anna Nicole Smith, who died as a result of an accidental overdose in 2007 at the age of 39, is in the works at European Film Market. The film is titled Hurricana and will be directed by Francesca Gregorini. Holly Hunter is in discussions to join the film. Earlier it was reported that Betty Gilpin was in talks to play Smith but now she won’t be appearing in the film. The story centers on Smith’s devoted therapist, Khristine Hunter, who in an attempt to save her client’s life embarks on a 36-hour odyssey in which she unknowingly delivers the fatal blow.

Kristin Wiig and Laura Dern’s comedy series ‘Mrs. American Pie’ heads to Apple

Kristen Wiig is all set to star in Mrs American Pie, a comedy series based on the novel of the same name by Juliet McDaniel. The 10-episode web series will stream on Apple and will also star Laura Dern who also executive produces the show. Mrs. American Pie is set in the early 1979s and revolves around Wigg’s character of Maxine Simmons who wants to secure her seat at America’s most exclusive table- Palm Beach high society.
