The Northman trailer: Alexander Skarsgard, Nicole Kidman and Ethan Hawke bring an epic tale of revenge based on Vikings lore

The first trailer of the upcoming action-thriller The Northman is out and it promises a whole load of family drama, vengeance, war and bloodshed. The trailer boasts of an epic revenge drama and has a stellar star cast of Nicole Kidman, Ethan Hawke, Alexander Skarsgard, Claes Bang, Anya Taylor-Joy, Björk, and Willem Dafoe.

Co-written and directed by Robert Eggers, The Northman focuses on the revenge of a Viking prince who sees his father murdered. Prince Amleth witnesses the murder of his father, King Aurvandill (Ethan Hawke), at the hands of his uncle Fjölnir (Claes Bang). He flees the kingdom but vows to avenge his father’s death. Now grown up, Amleth (Alexander Skarsgård) must reclaim the throne and save his mother, Queen Gudrun (Nicole Kidman). He is aided in his quest by nya Taylor-Joy's Olga. The film is based on Norse tales that also forms the basis of William Shakespeare’s Hamlet.

The official synopsis reads, “From visionary director Robert Eggers comes THE NORTHMAN, an action-filled epic that follows a young Viking prince on his quest to avenge his father’s murder. With an all-star cast that includes Alexander Skarsgård, Nicole Kidman, Claes Bang, Anya Taylor-Joy, Ethan Hawke, Björk, and Willem Dafoe.”

The Northman is slated to release in theatres on April 22, 2022.
