Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex and wife of Prince Harry turned 40 years old on August 4. She marked her special day with a video asking celeb friends to help women get back to work after the pandemic called 40x40. In the video, she jokes with Melissa McCarthy and says, “For my birthday, I have asked 40 friends, activists, athletes, artists, and world leaders to help kickoff a global effort by contributing 40 minutes of mentorship to support women re-entering the workforce.” The video was shared on Meghan’s and Harry’s Archwell Foundation website.
However, what grabbed people’s attention was a set of frames that were placed right on Meghan’s table. People claimed that the picture in the middle is that of Harry with his daughter Lilibet. Some fun BTS clips were also added at the end of the video. It also features Prince Harry wherein he can be seen juggling outside the window.
Meghan roped in Priyanka Chopra Jonas for the campaign as well and our dear PeeCee gave a shout out to the Duchess’ initiative resting aside all rumours of a rift between the friends. Priyanka wrote in her Instagram post that she was 'happy to join' the cause, and praised Meghan for putting the welfare of others before her own, on her birthday. She wrote, "Happy birthday, Meghan. For her 40th birthday this year, in true Meg fashion, she’s chosen to put the welfare of others first. As we all know, the pandemic has disproportionately impacted women around the world."
Priyanka continued, "In America alone, OVER 2 MILLION WOMEN have departed the workforce since January 2020. The three groups experiencing the largest burdens are mothers, women in senior management positions, and women of colour. These women, who are pillars of our communities, are shouldering the brunt of the crisis, including homeschooling and caring for family members of all ages. It’s time to help women get back into the workforce."
She concluded, "The Duchess of Sussex has asked 40 of her friends to take 40 minutes to support women getting back into the workforce… Of course I was more than happy to join. Now that’s a great way to celebrate a milestone Birthday. Bravo, my friend. You can all join in too. If you are able, donate time to mentoring, community service or any act or service that you can and maybe we can all collectively contribute to a global wave of compassion."
Priyanka had attended Meghan’s and Harry’s wedding but the latter skipped her wedding with Nick Jonas that started rumours of a rift between the friends. However, the two celebs never responded to such naysayers and always maintained cordial relations.
