Lucy Liu joins Helen Mirren and Zachary Levi in Shazam: Fury of the Gods

Lucy Liu has joined the cast of New Line/DC’s Shazam: Fury of the Gods. The announcement was made by the filmmakers on Monday. Liu will play the villainous Kalypso, the second daughter of Atlas and sister to Hespera. Previously, Helen Mirren was roped in to play Hespera. Liu joins Rachel Zegler, who will appear in a yet-undisclosed role pivotal to the story and Zachary Levi who will be reprising his role playing the kid-at-heart superhero alter ego Shazam.

The film is the highly anticipated sequel to the acclaimed 2019 film Shazam! and it will continue the story of teenage Billy Batson who upon reciting the magic word ‘Shazam!’ is struck by the Living Lightning of the gods and transformed into the adult superhero. Shazam has the powers of six gods: the wisdom of Solomon, the strength of Hercules, the stamina of Atlas, the power of Zeus, the courage of Achilles and the speed of Mercury. The film navigates between the formidable superpower and exploits of Shazam and the trials and tribulations of Billy who is still trying to navigate high school.

Shazam: Fury of the Gods is being directed by David F.Sandberg from a screenplay written by Henry Gayden. Peter Safran is producing the film through The Safran Company. Shazam is based on the DC character created by Bill Parker and CC Beck.
