CBS’ hit comedy Mom will go into its eight season but without one of is two leads. In a shocking turn of events, Anna Faris is exiting the series that she has headlined for the past seven years. An international portal reported that the actress’ departure is not due to the COVID-19 concerns but instead she want to pursue other career opportunities. Anna stars in the popular series with Oscar-winner Allison Janney.
The portal quoted Anna, “The past seven years on Mom have been some of the most fulfilling and rewarding of my career. I'm so thankful to Chuck Lorre, the writers, and my amazing castmates for creating a truly wonderful work experience. While my journey as Christy has come to an end, allowing me to pursue new opportunities, I'll be watching next season and rooting for my TV family."
The makers are not willing to recast her role as Christy, but her absence will be given a logical end. Apparently, Anna’s decision has not hampered the writers and the shooting of the new season will begin September 14. However, a premiere date is not in place yet.
Warner Bros. issued a statement as well that reads, “From the inception of Mom, Anna was the first and only choice for the role of Christy. We are so proud of the stories we have been able to tell during Anna's seven years with us. We wish Anna all the best, and we thank her for her beautiful portrayal." Besides, Anna and Allison, Mom also stars Mimi Kennedy, Jaime Pressly, Beth Hall, William Fichtner and Kirsten Johnston. They are all set to return for the eighth season.
