It appears from the trailers for the upcoming Spider-Man installment that Nick will play a large role in helping Peter Parker overcome his grief over the loss of Tony Stark. Far From Home, which will hit theaters July 2. 

Could there be a villainous explanation for Fury's eye patch switch? In an episode of the '90s Spider-Man animated series called Day of the Chameleon, Fury was impersonated by the Chameleon, and was found out because the eye patch was on the wrong eye.
