Owing to the raging COVID-19 scare, authorities CONFIRM the postponement of Festival De Cannes to a later date!

The pandemic of COVID-19 a.k.a the novel Coronavirus has brought both Bollywood and Hollywood film industry to a standstill. Owing to public safety and government norms, many events, award functions, and big-budget releases have been postponed for an indefinite period of time.

Though many of us were speculating about the fate of Festival De Cannes which was scheduled to happen on May 12 to May 23, 2020; the official authorities have cleared the air about the same. After Met Gala, the prestigious Cannes Film Festival has been postponed until further notice!

The official festival account made the announcement today, on March 20, 2020, on its social media account as well as a press release. “Due to the health crisis and the development of the French and international situation, the Festival de Cannes will no longer be able to take place on the dates planned, from May 12 to 23

Although there’s no clarity about the revised dates, the organizers are hopeful that it can be held later in 2020 by the end of June or beginning of July. "several options" to hold the event, "the main one being a simple postponement ... until the end of June, beginning of July 2020.", the official statement read.

It has also lent its vocal support to the general lockdown. “The Festival de Cannes lends its vocal support to all of those who firmly call on everyone to respect the general lockdown, and ask to show solidarity in these difficult times for the entire world.
