Tracing Sooryavanshi duo Akshay Kumar-Rohit Shetty's individual festival releases in the last decade and their box office success rates

Akshay Kumar completed 30 years in Bollywood this year. Making the occasion special for all his fans across the globe, the superstar has teamed up with the hit-machine of Hindi cinema, Rohit Shetty, for an out-and-out actioner Sooryavanshi. After almost 18 months delay due to the outbreak of COVID-19, the film is releasing on November 5, making Diwali dhamakedar, quite literally. 

As individuals, Akshay and Rohit have delivered multiple blockbusters and fans cannot wait to see what their maiden collaboration has in store. The cherry on the cake is Sooryavanshi's festival release. Diwali is synonymous with family time and what's better than watching a film after binge-eating sweets, bursting crackers and wearing new clothes to cinema halls that have just reopened?

In their respective careers, Akshay and Rohit got multiple opportunities to make festivals special by releasing their films in theatres. Oh My God- OMG! (2012) Anant Chaturdashi

With the blessings of Lord Ganesh, Akshay and Paresh Rawal's Oh My God- OMG! released on September 28, 2012, which was celebrated as Anant Chaturdashi. As per trade reports, the film earned Rs. 123.97 at the box office. OMG! addressed superstition and how self-styles Godmen and priests exploit innocent people in the name of devotion. The film was directed by Umesh Shukla. The sequel of it has gone on floors in Ujjain. OMG! won the award for Best Adapted Screenplay at the 60th National Film Awards. 

Kesari (2019) Holi

On Holi 2019, Akshay told the story of the Battle of Saragarhi in Kesari. In the Anurag Singh directorial, the superstar played the role of Havildar Ishar Singh. Kesari produced by Karan Johar's Dharma Productions released on March 21, 2019, and earned around Rs. 207.09 crores. The film was critically acclaimed. 

Housefull 4 (2019) Diwali

Making the audience roll on the floor laughing, Akshay returned with the 4th installment of the popular series Housefull. Theatres across India were indeed houseful as the superstar teamed up with Kriti Sanon, Riteish Deshmukh, Bobby Deol, Pooja Hegde, Kriti Kharbanda, Rana Daggubati, Johny Lever, Chunky Panday and others for a mad ride revolving around reincarnation. As per reports, the film earned Rs. 280.27 crores. Housefull 4 released on October 25, 2019, which was celebrated as Diwali.

Good Newwz (2019) New Year

Akshay, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Kiara Advani and Dilji Dosanjh ended 2019 with good news. Raj Mehta's Good Newwz released in theatres on December 27, 2019, and was enjoyed by all. As per reports, the film revolving around 2 couples and their tryst with IVF reportedly earned Rs. 318.57 crores.

Golmaal Returns (2008) Diwali

Rohit's 4th directorial, Golmaal Returns, released on October 29, 2008, and gave the audience a Diwali treat. Starring Ajay Devgn, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade and others, the film reportedly earned Rs. 82.4 crores.

All The Best (2009) Diwali

All The Best was the remake of the Malayalam film Best of Luck. The Rohit Shetty-directorial starred Ajay Devgn, Sanjay Dutt, Fardeen Khan, Bipasha Basu, Johny Lever, Sanjay Mishra and Mugdha Godse. The film earned Rs. 61 crores. 

Golmaal 3 (2010) Diwali

The third part of the Golmaal franchise released on November 5, 2010. It was a Diwali release. The film starred Mithun Chakraborty, Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade, Kareena Kapoor, Ratna Pathak and Kunal Kemmu. It was declared a blockbuster as it earned approximately Rs.169.25 crores. 

Dilwale (2015) Christmas

Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol's reunion on the big screen in Dilwale was loved by the audience. Making Christmas merrier for fans, Rohit released Dilwale on December 18, 2015. The film also starred Varun Dhawan, Kriti Sanon and Varun Sharma. As per reports, Dilwale earned Rs. 376.85 crores. 

Golmaal Again (2017) Diwali

Making Diwali 'spooktacular', Rohit released Golmaal Again, the fourth installment of the franchise, on October 20, 2017. The horror-comedy starred Tabu, Ajay Devgn, Parineeti Chopra, Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade and Kunal Kemmu among others. Golmaal Again approximately earned Rs. 311 crores.

Simmba (2018) New Year

Ranveer Singh joined Rohit's cop-universe with 2018's Simmba. Co-starring Sara Ali Khan and Sonu Sood, the film released on December 28, 2018, and introduced the audience to Veer Sooryavanshi, who will take the centre stage in Sooryavanshi. Simmba earned approximately Rs. 400.19 crores.

We wish Sooryavanshi breaks all the above records and revives the glory of theatres.
