Curating 1300 costumes musical to having 5 iconic costume installations and glamorous red carpet looks- Designer Manish Malhotra’s FASHION-PACKED weekend at the NMACC!

The two days of the surreal affair at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre have still got us reeling in the sartorial goodness. Now that the whirlwind of the red carpet extravaganza has settled down, it’s time we raise a toast for the man of the moment – ace designer Manish Malhotra! From creating costumes for the musical on day 1 to presenting a glamorous lineup of celebrity looks- it was indeed a sartorially packed weekend for Manish.

Bollywood’s one of most sought-after designers, Manish was one of the leading personas behind bringing ‘The Great Indian Musical: Civilization to Nation’ play to reality on Day 1 of the gala. Curating more than 1300 costumes for the musical, the ace designer brought forth different eras of fashion and culture under the same roof with his expert creativity.

Paying a heartfelt tribute to India’s glorious legacy and heritage, the costumed were varied, vibrant and intricately detailed to the T including philanthropist Mrs.Nita Ambani's custom lehenga made for her Bharatnatyam performance!

Not just that, given his rich sartorial legacy in the costume designing world of Bollywood Manish’s spectacular and iconic pieces from the Hindi Film industry also found a way in NMACC’s fashion exhibit. Five of Manish’s design pieces are standing tall in the said museum out of which three are archivals of his famous costumes that he has curated over the years.

The three costumes that hold relevance in Indian cinema’s fashion history include Kajol’s spectacular green outfit from Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaayene (1995), Kareena Kapoor Khan’s modish sharara pants, which had the fashionistas obsessed for a really long time from Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham (2001) and Priyanka Chopra Jonas’ ‘Desi Girl’ metallic sequin saree with a bikini blouse from Dostana (2008). These iconic pieces are placed with curations from Indian and international designers such as Yves Saint Laurent, Jean Paul Gaultier, Dior, Chanel, Valentino, Manish Aroa, Sabyasachi, Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla, Anita Dongre, Anamika Khanna, to name a few.

If you think, his role at the NMACC ended here, you couldn’t be more wrong! Manish presented us with some of the spectacular celebrity looks for both days at the gala and oh boy, we couldn’t get enough of them. Janhvi Kapoor and Kiara Advani’s pearl-embedded couture blouses were absolute show stealers whereas Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s intricately detailed shararas were breathtaking.

 

 

Shraddha Kapoor and Tamanaah Bhatia’s fusion drapes embodied the theme of ‘India in Fashion’ on day two while Sara Ali Khan and Gauri Khan’s looks exuded royalty.

 

 

 

 

 

Sidharth Malhotra, Nick Jonas, Varun Dhawan, Aakash Ambani, Anant Ambani, and Aditya Roy Kapur made for dapper MM men wearing royal sherwanis, bandhgalas and suave suits.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

As we say, it’s Manish Malhotra’s world and we are just living in it!
