In lieu of the traditional runway, luxury houses are presenting their collections on the digital platform of the Milan Fashion Week. Fulfilling our fashion ‘fantasea’ designer Donatella Versace presented us with her mermaid-themed Spring 2021 collection.
Replacing the important people from the fashion biz, the front rows of the show were occupied by the employees who were tested negative for COVID-19. With a setting of Roman remains covered in sand and seashells, designer Donatella Versace presented her collection, ‘Under the Sea’ inspired by the beauty of nature and Medusa.
Models including the regulars like Joan Smalls, Jill Kortleve and Irina Shayk glided down the runway as mystic sea creatures with dewy makeup and wet hairdo flaunting the label’s collection.
Those vibrant midi dresses brought back the Italian fashion house's Trésor de la Mer print, from the 90s while onda-hemline dresses derived inspiration from the movement of waves. The striped blazers and shorts as well as the co-ords celebrated the vibrant, joyous spirit presenting a kaleidoscope of shades.
This collection was a riot of colours ranging from popping pinks and vibrant yellows to icy blues and subdued pinks.
The seashells and starfish motifs along with embellished mermaid bras and corsets appeared on many pieces from the collection.
The Medusa inspired jewellery and handbag collection literally has our heart!
The glossy pastel bags with bright and popping chains, Trésor de la Mer printed fanny packs…what more to ask?!
“I wanted to create something disruptive, something that could be in tune with what has changed inside all of us," said Donatella. "To me, that meant dreaming of a new world. A world made of popping colors and fantastic creatures and a world in which we can all coexist peacefully”, she continued.
Exuberant, vibrant and oh-so-glamourous! Versace’s SS21 collections drowned us in the feels, literally. Right from the show’s setting to its theme and presentation, the Italian luxury brand scored high in all the arenas.
Apart from its stunning collection, the fashion house took care of the inclusivity as well. After reciving flaks for not being inclusive enough in their past collections, Donatella broke all the shakles and embraced the new norms by casting the plus size models in its couture film.
Instead of putting them in awkward clothing, the luxury brand highlighted their curves and assets in relaxed coutures and pieces which was a treat to behold in these changing times.
