Now when a man known for creating the most beautiful and magical bridal wear talks about shaming Indian women for not knowing to drape a saree, we are more than surprised.
“I think, if you tell me that you do not know how to wear a saree, I would say shame on you. It’s a part of your culture, you need stand up for it”
Yes, those were the exact words by the ace designer. It all began when Mr. Mukherjee was addressing the students at Harvard India Conference, and some one happened to question him about the difficulties women face in draping a saree, to which the designer passed the above statement.
The style maven whose designed the who's who of the industry further added, “Women and men are trying very hard to be something that they are not. Your clothing should be a part of who you are and connect you to your roots.”
Talking about tying dhoti in India, he stated, “Indian women have kept alive the saree, but the dhoti is dead.”
The "shame on you" comment which vent viral within minutes has clearly not gone down too well with his fans in the country. With Twitteratis are having a field day over this remark, looks like this controversy isn't going to die down very soon.
